Session 1: Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument and the Whole Brain
9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
For over twenty-five years Herrmann International has been the leader in the research and the application of Whole Brain Thinking. Whole Brain Thinking — the awareness of our own and others’ thinking styles, combined with the ability to act outside of our preferred thinking styles — allows individuals and companies to achieve greater performance and greater results.
The foundation of Whole Brain Thinking is the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI). The HBDI is validated and has broad application to business challenges including communication, change, teams, on-boarding, innovation and revenue generation. Originally developed for GE, the HBDI has been translated into 17 languages and over 2 million people have completed the assessment.
Whole Brain Thinking and the HBDI help individuals and organizations gain greater insights into how people prefer to think, learn, and communicate so they can harness the power of their greatest asset – their human capital – to achieve their desired results.

Lewis has been a management consultant, entrepreneur, and coach specializing in coaching high and mid level executives. His experience includes over 20 years of organizational leadership as a marketing executive leading sales, production, operation, and administrative teams.
Lewis has coached a large number of leaders in the High-Tech environment. For a global software company he has coached a SVP who has transitioned from an “I” persona to a “We” or “Us” leadership style. And for a broadband company, the SVP of operations asked Lewis to coach his direct reports to evolve into entrepreneurial leaders. Lewis used Bar-On’s Emotional Intelligence 360 and other tools to help build robust developmental plans for these high level executives.

Session 2: Somatic Coaching – Accessing the Wisdom of the Body at Work
10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
We are deeply engaged in technology in such a way that we are pulled away from the visceral experience of living. We more and more operate in isolation, disconnected from relationships that are important to us. We can become numb to how we impact others and our environment, which may have a huge impact on our levels of stress - especially at work.
In this presentation, we will explore how to become more present, open and connected in both our personal lives and in our professional lives. You will leave the workshop with skills that you can put into practice immediately; skills that will leave you more vital and alive. You will have access through your body to a pathway to support yourself in times of stress.
The larger mission of this work is to produce leaders who embody pragmatic wisdom, skillful action and grounded compassion.
Bio: Denise Benson, MFT, is a seasoned somatic coach and psychotherapist in private practice in Los Altos and San Francisco, California. She works with adults and adolescents in a range of areas from leadership development to healing trauma. She also supervises intern therapists for The California Institute of Integral Studies. Denise facilitates somatics-based groups and is certified by Strozzi Institute as a Master Somatic Coach.
Prior to becoming a therapist, Denise developed and taught an innovative curriculum on emotional intelligence as a junior high school teacher. Her essay entitled, “Coming Home to the Body: A Journey for Adolescents,” is a part of an anthology edited by Richard Strozzi Heckler entitled Being Human at Work: Bringing Somatic Intelligence into Your Professional Life.
Denise also is on staff with The Institute for Women's Leadership. She provides somatic coaching with the executive leadership program.
Networking Lunch: 11:45 to 12:45
Session 3: Self Organizing Systems and the Inner-Net: How Groups Form to Engage Spirit at Work
12:45 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Wikipedia didn't write the world's largest encyclopedia; YouTube didn't create videos that get 150 million views a day; Flickr didn't take the photos that are posted every second; MySpace didn't create the content that attracts the masses. And just so, the Gandhis, Mother Teresas and Martin Luther Kings of the next generation will not simply publish a newspaper, write letters or give talks. Instead, the next revolution will be led by a distributed network of invisible heroes who create spaces for meaningful, many-to-many connections to manifest organically.
In the 21st century "starfish" world, where any arm can potentially grow an entirely new body, the question is no longer about producers and consumers. The more important issue is: what values will we organize around?
In the spirit portion of our workshop, we'll explore collective giving and the gift economy as ways to increase spirit at work. This spirit is further ignited when communities self organize around a common purpose. Nipun Mehta will describe how his experiment with 4 volunteers scaled into an exponentially growing network of more than 200,000 members, through his commitment to service.
Bio: Nipun Mehta, Founder CharityFocus.Org
Nipun Mehta is the founder of CharityFocus.org, a fully volunteer-run organization that has delivered millions of dollars of web-related services to the nonprofit world for free. The recipient of the Jefferson Award for Public Service and the President's Volunteer Service Award, his work creatively leverages web technologies for collaborative and transformational giving, lending him insight into service, leadership, organizational design, and spirituality. He serves on the advisory boards of the Seva Foundation, Dalai Lama Foundation, and Airline Ambassadors.
Nipun's high-school goal was to either become a tennis-pro or a Himalayan Yogi. However, by the third year of his Computer Science and Philosophy degree at UC Berkeley, he started his software career at Sun Microsystems. Dissatisfied by the dot-com style of business of the late 90s, Nipun went to a homeless shelter with three friends to "give with absolutely no agendas." They ended up creating a website, and also an organization named CharityFocus. Today, CharityFocus's 250,000 members incubate compassionate action in a multitude of ways and its inspiration portals get 100 million hits a year.
In January 2005, Nipun dropped everything to embark on an open-ended, unscripted walking pilgrimage in India. He walked 1000 kilometers before ending up at a monastery where he meditated for three months. Today, Nipun lives in Berkeley, where he continues to do small acts of service with great compassion, while continuing to run CharityFocus.
